GITANO Tulum has helped transform the small Mexican beach town of Tulum into the international Gypset locale that it is today. Guests at GITANO Tulum are immediately transported to a world that artfully mixes passion and play with the local flavors and vibe that make Tulum special. An epicurean pioneer, GITANO Tulum offers a menu of seasonal, local ingredients prepared in traditional methods for dishes that are meant to be consumed in an interactive, shared dining experience – the bar boasts a list of over 50 Mezcals and signature hand-made cocktails that use locally-grown seasonal fruits and herbs. As dinner turns into dancing, guests can kick their shoes off and enjoy GITANO’s Jungle Room, a space meant for fun and free expression – all set against colonial-inspired architecture tucked into an eons-old jungle. 2018 GARDEN OF LOVE

Bringing the Tulum Jungle to the Concrete Jungle, GITANO Garden of Love unlocked its doors in June 2018 and is open seasonally May - October. Garden of Love was a dramatic 450-seat restaurant and mezcal bar set in 24,000 square feet, lush tropical garden in the heart of SoHo with a backdrop of the Freedom Tower and downtown NYC skyline. The restaurant and lounge included twin wood pergola dining decks, 30’ coconut palms, a reflecting pool and meditation labyrinth. Offering a modern Mexican menu cooked on an open fire, designed for sharing and served with our signature mezcal cocktails.

2022 GITANO ISLAND

In 2022, we moved to Governors Island and opened a tropical, Waterfront Restaurant and Beach Lounge. An escape from the city without leaving NYC, just a 5-minute boat ride from downtown! Set in an expansive 27,000-square-foot palm tree jungle with wood pergola dining decks, sun lounges, and sweeping city views, it’s the place to see-and-be-seen every summer.

GITANO FOUNDER & CEO

An innovator and entrepreneur, James is a Brit who started his career in strategy and technology in London. In 1994 he moved to NYC where he became a wall st. algorithmic trading leader. In 2004 He moved on to build the first and most successful digital and ecommerce businesses taking major fashion & luxury brands online.

At the end of 2013, James moved to his home away from home Tulum with his long-time partner Andrew Cramer and together they started GITANO Tulum. James has led the business to great success. In 2017, he founded GRUPO GITANO to expand the brand globally, now with 5 locations in Mexico, the U.S., and more to be announced.

MELISSA PERLMAN

TULUM HOTELIER & GITANO CO—OWNER

Melissa is an energetic, charismatic, trailblazer, and successful businesswoman. She moved to Tulum after 9/11 and started her journey to build Amansala, a health and wellness retreat on Tulum Beach. She built it room by room to what is now over 100 rooms and one of the largest properties in Tulum. She also founded Bikini Boot Camp, a fun, innovative, and successful fitness concept.

In 2017, Melissa became a partner in Gitano Tulum and Grupo Gitano. Today, she is an investor and partner in Grupo Gitano. Her strong business savvy supports James’ vision for the brand's growth and business.
