FROM SOHO TO GOVERNORs ISLAND
GITANO has truly solidified itself as a glamorous hot spot in New York City every summer. Two years ago, the 27,000-square-foot waterfront restaurant and lounge opened its doors, offering a unique jungle experience for guests in the heart of NYC.
Formerly known as "GITANO GARDEN OF LOVE" on a tropical oasis in SoHo for four years, the Mexico-founded hospitality brand re-imagined its NYC location as "GITANO ISLAND" and relocated to Governors Island. GITANO wanted to create a fully immersive experience, an escape from the concrete jungle. They brought in 350 tons of sand along with 500 tropical plants and palm trees to create a lush Tulum jungle setting in the heart of New York City.
The GITANO essence of free spirits, wanderers, and Bohemians is captured in the ambiance and decor of GITANO ISLAND. GITANO means "gypsy" in Spanish. The space exudes a sense of inclusivity, creativity, and unabashed fun, making it a welcoming environment for all.
This year, guests can look forward to a reimagined menu. Indulge in modern Mexican dishes and new international beach favorites such as black truffle mushroom sopes, lobster tostada, whipped feta, and the GITANO Burger complemented by signature Mezcal cocktails.
The Governors Island location boasts one of the best waterfront dining views in NYC. Step into a lounge overlooking the city skyline complete with teepees, cabanas, the iconic disco ball, and a stage for international DJs and artists. The Bedouin dining tent houses a custom marble bar, dramatic twin wood pergola dining decks, and an open-fired kitchen.
Visit GITANO ISLAND this summer on Governors Island, just a five-minute boat ride from downtown NYC. Enjoy all of the delights this tropical paradise has to offer for its third season!
